I membri dell’Academy e i governatori hanno esaminato il caso di Will Smith ed hanno valutato se togliere a Smith la statuetta vinta come migliore attore protagonista per “Una famiglia vincente – King Richard” o invece, come è accaduto, infliggergli un divieto temporaneo di partecipare agli eventi legati agli Oscar. Dopo la decisione, a parlare sono stati i fan dell’attore di “Man in Black” che sono insorti in Rete: punizione esagerata, sovramisura e, per alcuni, anche “razzista”. Tutti indignati per l’ipocrisia di Hollywood, perché misure simili non sono mai state prese e neppure pensate, contro attori di carnagione bianca, a partire da Harvey Weinstein che continua a tenere l’Oscar pur essendo stato condannato a 23 anni di prigione dopo aver aggredito e stuprato una ottantina di donne. Sui social inoltre è girato l’elenco dei nomi che, a detta dei fan, non sono stati umiliati allo stesso modo di Will Smith: tra questi Kevin Spacey, Casey Affleck, Woody Allen, James Franco, Dustin Hoffman nonostante le diverse accuse di molestie sessuali. Tra le voci che si sono levate contro Hollywood c’è quella di Piers Morgan: il commentatore britannico ha usato il caso Polanski per illuminare l’incoerenza dell’Academy, al quale nel 2003 è stato dato l’Oscar per “Il Pianista” nonostante a 44 anni avesse drogato e stuprato una tredicenne. A difendere Will però non sono solo i fan ma anche il figlio, Jaden Smith, il quale giustifica pienamente il gesto d’ira avuto dal padre scrivendo un tweet: “è così che facciamo”. Inutile dire che le parole di Jaden hanno sollevato una vera e propria polemica: tanti infatti ritengono che il gesto di Will Smith vada in ogni modo condannato, soprattutto in virtù dell’esempio che un personaggio di tale portata può dare.
