La Cinquina Finalista del Premio Strega sarà, per la prima volta in settantacinque anni, proclamata a Benevento, città di origine di Guido Alberti, ideatore assieme a Maria Bellonci del premio. “E’ un evento importante per tutta la cultura italiana e un successo mediatico per il nostro capoluogo sannita. Il Premio con questo risultato rafforza ancora di più il suo legame con la Città di Benevento”. Così Clemente Mastella, sindaco della città sannita, ha dato l’annuncio dell’evento in cui si selezioneranno i cinque finalisti; esso si terrà presso il Teatro Romano il 10 giugno.
Giovanni Solimine, il presidente della Fondazione Bellonci, che organizza e gestisce il Premio Strega, ha spiegato le motivazioni che hanno portato la premiazione dalla sua sede abituale, Roma, a Benevento: “Ci è sembrato giusto, in un anno speciale per il Premio, tenere l’incontro a Benevento, la città del Liquore Strega”. Il trasferimento dell’evento alla città natale di Alberti ha una forte connotazione simbolica, soprattutto in vista del settantacinquesimo anniversario del Premio, ma la Fondazione non nasconde anche motivazioni pratiche e funzionali. La solita sede romana del Premio, Casa Bellonci, a causa di lavori di ristrutturazione era già stata sostituita con il Tempio di Adriano della Camera di Commercio. “Ora i lavori sono terminati, ma le norme anti Covid-19 ci impediscono di poter accogliere le tante persone che di solito partecipano all’appuntamento” spiega Solimine, “mentre al Teatro Romano di Benevento la proclamazione potrà svolgersi alla presenza dei dodici candidati e del pubblico, nel rispetto delle norme di prevenzione della pandemia”.
Tra i libri che concorrono per la cinquina i favoriti sono “Sembrava bellezza” di Teresa Ciabatti, edito da Mondadori, e “Borgo Sud” di Donatella Di Pietrantonio, edito da Einaudi. A guastare il duello al femminile tra i due colossi dell’editoria italiana ci sono però “Due vite”, edito da Neri Pozza, di Emanuele Trevi, già vincitore di svariati altri premi letterari, “Il libro delle case”, edito da Feltrinelli, di Andrea Bajani, e “Il pane perduto”, edito da La Nave di Teseo, di Edith Bruck. Per sciogliere la tensione dobbiamo ancora attendere due date: il 10 giugno per la selezione dei finalisti e l’8 luglio per l’assegnazione del vincitore.
